Metaphorically thinking

I have recently been studying the Old Testament Book of Job and found myself in awe of the literature and poetry. This led me to a wonderful blog on this subject by John Hobbins:

Then I felt the need to explore the nature of metaphor and to my great interest discover that in cognitive science there is a considerable interest in the role of metaphor in our thinking -in particular ‘cross domain mapping’:

So inspired I have written a poem about my sighting of a Kingfisher on my local river last week:

King Fisher

I saw you first   

From my post

You did not know 

I knew

Behold beheld  

Ready to blaze

Not knowing

To be thrilled

Took flight

In azure

Joyous gift

Seen told
